Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a car accident Tuesday in downtown Charlotte, N.C., and the Panthers say he sustained two fractures in his lower back but no other major injuries.

Newton was injured when his car crashed on the Church Street bridge, a few blocks from Bank of America Stadium, where the Panthers practice and play. One other vehicle was said to have been involved. Photos of the scene showed what was reported to be Newton’s truck overturned. He was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and transported to a hospital by ambulance.

A team spokesman, Charlie Dayton, said at a news conference that Newton underwent tests that revealed two transverse process fractures in his lower back and would remain hospitalized overnight for observation. Dayton said the injury would not require surgery.

Newton, 25, is in his fourth season with the Panthers. They selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 N.F.L. draft after his college career at Auburn.

The Panthers (4-8-1) beat the Saints, 41-10, in New Orleans on Sunday.

The prognosis for Newton was not announced, but his injury is similar to one sustained by Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, although Romo was injured in a game in October and not in an accident. He missed one game before returning to play, although he said recently that the fractures were still healing.

Derek Anderson is the team’s backup quarterback and will be first in line to replace Newton if he is unable to play Sunday against Tampa Bay (2-10). Anderson started and led Carolina to a season-opening victory against the Buccaneers.

Football fans not only are passionate about the game but they are also great admirers of the players and also try and wear the same kinds of shirts that they wear. Having a collection of football related goods and merchandises is also a major hobby for many enthusiasts.

For anybody who wishes to create a football kit, taking very good care of the equipments and the associated apparels is a very important thing. And why not, after all, they are quite expensive and exclusively available.

By following some simple, small steps, you should be able to increase the longevity of your shirts and other personalised goods.

One of the major tips to consider in maintaining the quality of your shirt is to start taking care of it from the moment you buy it at the store. These stores customise the merchandises right in front of you, be it the printing of the name or number on the back of the shirt. After choosing the shirt and getting it printed, be very careful that you do not fold back the shirt immediately after the printing is done. The heat press which is used for printing makes the cloth material very soft and folding it while still hot will leave creases on the shirt after cooling down.

It is recommended that you keep the shirt open and let it dry for an approximate of 15 minutes. Even if you need to fold it, make sure you do not fold it in a way that the number or name is folded. A few of good stores that sell personalised football kits take care of this issue themselves. This might sound pretty obvious, but it is quite a significant tip. Try that you don't get your shirt too dirty and messy. The shirts tend to easily get discoloured and damaged on extensive wear and tear. Somehow, any type of grease stain is very clearly visible on a football shirt. You must take care while that you avoid maximum stains on your shirts.

The method which you use to wash your shirt also plays a major role in determining how long the shirt will remain in the same quality. Irrespective of the colour of the shirt, always remember to wash it in cold water and use the softest settings of the washing machine. Also, remember that powdered detergents might leave residues at time, prefer liquid detergents. Never, ever put your shirt in a dryer. To prevent any type of wrinkle formation in the shirts, immediately take out the shirt from the wash and let it dry. Do not iron your football shirts. If you feel the need to iron, try cold or at the maximum warm iron.

If line drying is not an option, take the washed shirts to a place where you can dry them naturally. Whichever method you choose for drying, see to it that you don't dry it for a very long period of time; otherwise it is likely to cause shrinkage. If you find it hard to maintain the suitable conditions for washing your shirt, take it to a dry cleaner's to be safe. Check the label for washing instructions.

Although the ideal football kit design is one which comprises of a rucksack along with the football merchandises, you should note that extensive use of the rucksack on the shirt's back will be harmful for the delicate material of the shirts. Also, avoid bringing anything with the Velcro in contact with the shirt. This will lead to the development of the unattractive sags.

Hindus have welcomed the decision of International Football Association Board (IFAB) for allowing the players to wear head covers.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that “it was a step in the right direction”, although it was long overdue.

This modification was approved at the 128th Annual General Meeting of IFAB (formed 1886), chaired by Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) President Joseph S. Blatter, and held at Zurich (Switzerland) on March one. “After a two-year pilot, The IFAB agreed that there was no indication as to why the wearing of head covers should be prohibited”, Media Release at FIFA.com said. It will come into effect on June one.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, applauded IFAB for standing by the religious freedom. The 2014 world should protect the religious freedom of all as it was a fundamental human right. All people should be permitted to play soccer regardless of religion. Ban on head covers was highly unjust and discriminatory, Zed added.

IFAB’s role “is to discuss and decide upon proposed alterations to the Laws of the Game”.

Hindus have asked Scotland’s Muirfield, The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, to open membership to women also.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that women membership was long overdue and it would bring an end to 269-years old gender discrimination. Men only membership policy of Muirfield was highly inappropriate, immoral and archaic, Zed added.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that instead of being proud of its traditions, intransigent Muirfield should be ashamed and embarrassed of its exclusionist policy of barring women members. Male-only membership policy of Muirfield needed to go and right now. Clubs like Muirfield, who refuse to treat women as equal, should not be in the business in 21st century Scotland and world.

Rajan Zed further said that golf's governing body R&A, which organized The Open Championship, golf’s oldest Major, should not stage tournament at Muirfield in the future unless it changed its men-only membership policy; and should strongly address this sexism and promote equality, instead of turning a blind eye to it.

Zed, quoting scriptures, explained that ancient Manusmriti said: “Where women are revered, there the gods are pleased; where they are not, no rite will yield any fruit.”

Rajan Zed indicated that The Church of Scotland and its Moderator Right Reverend Lorna Hood should also come out openly advocating treating women with equality and respect they deserved and persuading Muirfield to allow women to become members. Women should not have to face such a struggle to gain acceptance at Muirfield, which seemed to have refused to progress with the society.

Muirfield, one of the oldest and famous clubs in golf hosting major championships, whose history went back to 1744, is used in rotation for The Open Championship. American professional golfer Jack Nicklaus has reportedly described Muirfield as the best golf course in Britain. It claims to be the oldest verifiable organized golf club in the world. Currently, women can play at Muirfield as guests or visitors but cannot become members. Located in Gullane (East Lothian), Stuart McEwen is its Secretary.
